Achyranthes, a specialty of Jiaozuo City, Henan Province, China, is a national geographical indication product.

Jiaozuo is located on the north bank of the middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River, with a long history of agricultural development and a fine tradition of intensive cultivation. Huai Niu Xi is a commonly used bulk Chinese medicinal herb and one of the famous "Four Great Huai Medicines". Huainiu knee has a short growth cycle, is easy to grow and manage, and is easy to produce. It is a variety with frequent price fluctuations, and has experienced significant market changes multiple times in history. The annual demand is about 6000 tons.

Huai Niu Xi contains a large amount of alkaloids, which can tonify the liver and kidney, strengthen muscles and bones, unblock meridians, and disperse evil blood. Clinically, it is commonly used to treat symptoms such as cold and dampness, lower back and knee bone pain, lower back and knee soreness and weakness, limb cramps, menstrual disorders, postpartum blood stasis and abdominal pain, blood drenching, falls and injuries, and knee flexion disorders. It is one of the commonly used meridian activating and blood activating drugs in traditional Chinese medicine formulas.

On August 7, 2003, the former General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China approved the implementation of regional product protection for "Huai Niu Xi".
